Cigarette vending machines banned in pubs from this weekend

Cigarette vending machines in pubs, clubs and restaurants will be banned from Saturday to stop underage smoking.

Members of staff can still sell tobacco after carrying out age checks.

Anyone allowing the use of a machine could be fined up to £2,500.

About 16% of regular underage smokers buy cigarettes from machines in England and Wales.

An NHS spokeswoman said: "This will make it more difficult for underage smokers in the future."
